“The ‘Thailand’s Best Friends’ award is a prestigious distinction specifically created in recognition of our loyal customers’ patronage and commitment to buying from Thailand, And today, we honor 105 importers from 30 countries – our customers who have generously contributed to the prosperity of the Thai export industries. As you are among the ‘top 2’ importers identified each of our ‘top 30’ export sectors, we applaud you and thank you for your commitment and your loyalty, as well as the pride that we hope you feel in investing in Thai products and services,” said the Prime Minister to the trade partners at the ceremony.

The Prime Minister said, “For Thailand, exports have accounted for, and remain, an essential component of income for our country, as well as a significant engine for economic growth and a path to a robust economy. Despite the strong impact of the global economic downturn that began in 2008, Thailand is still holding strong in exports. The strength of our exports industry and the world-class quality of our products and services have therefore not only mitigated the effects of the challenging global economic climate, but also allowed us to draw in potential importers in new export sectors of our economy.”

Ms. Nantawan Sakultanak, the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) Director-General said that guests invited to take part in the Thailand’s Best Friends 2011 include importers and trade partners from the service industries from major importing countries around the world including ASEAN (5), Japan, the U.S. and the European Union, as well emerging exporting countries with high purchasing power such as Indochina, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Australia, Latin America, India, South Korea, Eastern Europe and Taiwan.
